2011 Arab Uprisings

In the year 2011 several countries in the Arab world were swept by uprisings. Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, and to a lesser extent, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria saw people protesting their ruling government. The preconditions of these uprisings were: corruption, coercion, economic injustice, and political stagnation. The participants varied in their age and in their religious, social, and economic background. An important means of communication and organization was the social media, for example through Facebook, SMS-messaging, and twitter.
This section of the encyclopaedia will give examples of literature that captures the events of the 2011 uprisings. It is divided in sub-sections of the different countries in which protests took place.
