- Edited by Sarah Cleave, Banthology (2018) is a collection of seven stories, in English, of writers from the original “banned countries” who’s citizens former US President Trump aimed to ban from entering the US. The stories by Rania Mamūn, Wajdi al- Anūd, Najwa bin Shatwān (1970-, Libya), Wajdī al-Ahdal (1973-, Yemen), Zahirʿ Umarīn, and Cristina Ali Faraḥ all use different genres to explore the emotional and personal impact of restrictions on movement. Najwa bin Shatwān’s short story ‘Return Ticket’, for example, is set in the distant future in which a town called Schroedinger (named after the Austrian physicist), a town that can move through time and space, hovers over the US twice a week. Six US tourists are present in the town, and while the US intelligence service fears that the town wants to enter the country, they have no desire to do so (reference).
