  • Sārah al-Jāk’s (1980-, Sudan) short story collection Kumbā (‘Kumba’, 2015) treats questions related to identity and the Sudanese nation in its different historical periods, including the separation between North and South Sudan. It also reflects on the limitations imposed on Sudanese women.
  • Istīlā Qāytānū’s (?, Stella Gitano, Sudan) short story collection al-ʿAwdā (2014, English trans. The Return, 2016) centres on Sudanese people who need to return to South Sudan after Sudan is partitioned into two different countries (also in M: Movement: (E)Migration, Refugees and Return: Return).
